In the classroom
For my third grade class I do hope to use curriculum from one subject and incorporate it into another. I know I will primarily be working on reading, and writing for my third graders, but I've also thought of perhaps doing lesson plans that sort of morph if you will from one subject to the other, as I've seen other teachers do. For example we could do a lesson on a book about Outer Space and the planets within, which I think would keep their attention with interesting concepts, while at the same time getting them involved with reading. For this lesson plan I could include ideas about science, which they'd already be engaging in, and do small experiments like either creating a small scale solar system, or using the students themselves as planets and the sun, then creating dialogue to go with where they are as far as distance from the sun. So in essence they'd be engaging not only in reading, but in science, as well as math and English since I'd have them create their own dialogue, with help of course. But this is just a rough version of this idea. Also since these are third graders I'm pretty confident in their abilities
