Geography in the Classroom
Another idea I have is to incorporate geography into reading and writing where I would have the students pick out a book about a place they'd like to learn about, and then create a small story about this place. Basically using the location of the place, and perhaps telling a story about an imaginary person, or a person they read about, or just the place in general. It could even be about an animal, such as a lion in Africa, or a whale in the ocean, but being more specific as to where the whale migrates in the ocean, or what part of Africa the lion is king. Perhaps they could even choose to write about a place they've always wanted to visit, and the things they'd do there, who'd they go with, and what they'd like to learn more about when they were there. Just so long as they could tell me about the place, i.e. is it hot, cold, where it's located on a map, and some additional information about the culture there.
